1983-1984
Two homeless men were found frozen to death in a boxcar in Pocatello due to harsh winter.

1984
Community responded by chartering a grassroots volunteer organization named Aid For Friends. Initially, homeless were housed in basements, churches and other available accomodations. Bannock County donated a small house located at 643 South 4th Street as the first homeless shelter in Pocatello.

1988
The shelter moved next door to 653 South 4th. Originally, the house was a university fraternity house. Bannock Regional Medical Center later used it as an alcohol treatment facility owned by Bannock County. The County agreed to lease it to Aid For Friends for $1.00 a year.

1993
Aid For Friends acquired a photography shop located at 920 East Clark to be used as an administrative office and Resource Center. The building was originally the home of Rev. Vevig of the Nazarene Church in 1943.

1994
The Transitional Housing Program was developed through a partnership with the First Congregational United Church of Christ, which leased a duplex and a pocket apartment to Aid For Friends.

1995
A fire nearly destroyed the Resource Center. Nine months later, the Resource Center was renovated and a second story was added to the building.

1997
